Jacobs Foundation

Annual report animation

The Jacobs Foundation has spent more than 35 years working to make education better for children around the world. To mark the release of their 2024 Annual Report—and celebrate three decades of impact—they wanted something a bit different. Something human, warm, and full of energy.

They asked us to create a series of animations that could bring key themes from the report to life in a way that felt fun and accessible while landing serious messages. We created three pieces of content for social media, along with looping visuals designed specifically for the website. Each piece focused on a different aspect of their work: from how evidence-based research is transforming the way kids learn, to how the Foundation is teaming up with governments, businesses and philanthropies to bring large-scale reforms to places like Colombia, Switzerland, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.

One of the films spotlighted their LEVANTE programme, which is all about understanding how children learn—individually, socially and across cultures—so education systems can be more inclusive and effective for every kind of learner. Visually, we leaned into a playful, character-led approach that echoed the Foundation’s child-centred focus. We built on their existing brand, designing original characters and graphical elements that gave the animations a friendly, energetic tone. The style was a mix of 2D motion graphics and frame-by-frame animation, blending clean design with hand-drawn flourishes to give everything a sense of movement and personality.

These animations are used across the Jacobs Foundation’s digital platforms, helping drive awareness of their work and inviting people to explore the annual report in more depth. For us, it was a chance to tell important stories in a joyful, memorable way—and to help a brilliant organisation celebrate 35 years of making a difference.
